Did I earn my Stripes today, like they Did?

Re-Freeze

Did I earn my stripes today?

Icebergs with colored strips.

Amazing striped icebergs

Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by
layers of snow that react to different conditions.

Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form.

When an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe.

Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up
when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea.

Happy Fodders' Day all!!

Happy Father's day, my brother.
You know, one area where T and I differ greatly is, she loves to travel. She loves to go, see and do. She has spent the majority of her life, working and raising kids. So, I think that she has a longing for a sense of movement and wonder, a traveling mind.
I, on the other hand, have spent a lot of my hours in transit, rootless and weary. At first, I too was eager to see beyond the horizon and pillage strange new lands. But, that feeling faded and then came the hard years when I felt a constant burn like kerosene was flowing through my veins.
T and I haven't traveled much together. Matter of fact, one of the few times was when we came to visit you guys and the hog butcher to the world.
As she came to realize that I wasn't going to grow out of this phase, where being on my way to someplace else, brings back the old feelings, the old grind and the diesel and sweat, she made a game out of it. "Let's go to the Grand Canyon some time".
"Honey, I've been up and down I-40 so many times, I remember the exit numbers".
"Let's go to Florida."
"I spent July in Tampa once, Honey. It's a graveyard with heat."
Out of her frustration, the game changed slightly to-"Where in the world would you consider going if, there wasn't a gig involved?"
"Boston?"
"I'd go if there was a gig."
"Paris?"
"Would have to have some kind of tour lined up."

A couple years back, I saw a documentary about Robert Falcon Scott and was intrigued with the idea of Antarctica. Sis sent me a DVD of "Shackleton", I was glued to it. I read Scott's journals.
I have Antarctica on the brain.
It's the top of the "Where in the world would you consider going if, there wasn't a gig involved?", list; much to the dismay of T (I have been trying to give it a serious effort though P.D.-Blue Ridge Parkway-maybe-Spain-yeah, I'd do that, I'd like to go gold mining maybe). Truth is, and it's a strange one-the only place I really have a burning desire to see, in this world, is Antarctica.

I think it is so endearing you call the missus "T".. that's a hoot.

We only got to met the three of you that one time in Chi-town. After the traveling road shows I did for nitwits the last part of the century, I was like you in one way: I felt like I was molting into one of them. The loneliest place on earth is central Florida. By 1998 Acetone was coursing through my veins.

So I am going to put Antarctica in you Bucket List for safe keeping.

My Dad yesterday told me his last two desires for his Bucket List:
1) A white water trip down the Colorado
2) Take a schooner on a long cruise... which was before once wished around the world trip, now just a Caribbean sail would do.

He also reported on Fathers' Day he has a case of Sitter-around-itis, lately, driving him nuts.

If you, or we, don't all make it to Antarctica, will Dubai be close enough?

Dear T:
Try this one: "Raymond, which one do you want to go to this summer? a) Senegal, b) Kamloops, British Columbia, or c) Kansas City Zoo

Like my girls, to speed things up, I have to lay out three outfits in the morning for them to pick one... otherwise they miss the bus.

Yeah, I'm callin' ya a girl on this one... so take it like a man. Load up the micro van and travel the AlCan freeway, and don't forget to drop your drawers and slide on the ice.

Calling me a girl...well, now I don't feel the slightest remorse for cracking out "Mescal in your Metamucil".

Your Dad still wants to go, see and conquer with a few minor concessions. Inspiring-carpe diem

Dubai? I've seen pictures and a documentary on the bizarre "islands" (condo communities)they are constructing. The landscape looks much like nothing but, I might be swayed out of architectural curiosity. Would definitely go if there was a gig.
