Arizona has Chops ... Tough on Illegals and on Cons

Arizona Keeps taking Everyone Else to School
Retrieved a while ago by Pat Darnell

'It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace,' Said James Zanzot, An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year. 'It's Inhumane.'

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: 'It's 120 Degrees In Iraq And Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too, And They Have To Wear Full Battle Gear, ... But They Didn't Commit Any Crimes, So Shut Your Mouths!'

You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well.........

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!
Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!

Maricopa County was spending approximately $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.

He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the Holidays, and plant it later. We have six trees in our yard from the Prison.

Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.

Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

  • Sheriff Joe Arpaio (In Arizona ) who created the 'Tent City Jail':
  • He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.
  • He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights Cut off all but 'G' movies.
  • He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
  • Then He Started Chain Gangs For Women So He Wouldn't Get Sued For Discrimination.
  • He took away cable TV Until he found out there was A Federal Court Order that Required Cable TV For Jails So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.

When asked why the weather channel He Replied, So They Will Know How Hot It's Gonna Be While They Are Working ON My Chain Gangs.
He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, 'This Isn't The Ritz/Carlton......If You Don't Like It, Don't Come Back.'

More On The Arizona Sheriff:
With Temperatures Being Even Hotter Than Usual In Phoenix (116 Degrees Just Set A New Record), the Associated Press Reports:

About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire-Surrounded Tent Encampment At The Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued Pink Boxer Shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 Degrees Inside The Week Before.

Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Their Chests And Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS.

'It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace,' Said James Zanzot, An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year. 'It's Inhumane.'

Someone Concluded:
"Way To Go, Sheriff!
Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves. MooPig TV Series Review :: FARSCAPE -- Is there a Lawyer in the House?

What is the Netball to all Catastrophes -- Litigation, maybe?
By Pat Darnell and Space Captains

Do you try to predict the future, sometimes? As a hobby or otherwise, one would've seen what's coming if one watched a TV series in 2000, Farscape. For a literary composite, as Farscape has done, I suggest watching one of the episodes. Episode 8 of Season 2 --"Dream a Little Dream" helps to explain the nature of the aftermath of the worst oil spill in the history of Mankind on Earth here in 2010.

Actually, Litigation is on the doorsteps of two very large institutions at this very moment in time, space, and architecture. Most of the circumstance of our disasters are unpredictable, yet back-peddlers try to rewrite preamble data all the time, mostly to their own fortune.

For example: British Petroleum is now facing a two-edged sword in trying to dissuade the world that it is broke, while headed for litigation hell on several international fronts. You know the saying goes: Don't Mess with Texas? What goes true for Texas goes for Gulf Coast states all along the coast. That is too many battle lines for BP.
Gulf Coast Lengths, statute miles
State | General coastline | Tidal shoreline

Florida (Gulf) 770 | 5,095
Alabama 53 | 607
Mississippi 44 | 359
Louisiana 397 | 7,721
Texas 367 | 3,359

Total Gulf Coast 1,631 | 17,141 [statute miles; SOURCE.]

At precisely the same time stamp, the Vatican must scramble for mitigation to thwart Legal Hounds at the Pope's doorstep, concerning their first legal petition arriving from the USA Bishops' sex scandal cover-ups accusers.
At the end of the Twentieth Century, one of the Sci-Fi Channel's most popular shows almost immediately upon airing, "Farscape" begins its thrilling second season as John Crichton, Aeryn, D'Argo and the Moya, their sentient ship, are forced to abandon the Moya's newborn offspring to a Peacekeeper so they can continue their journey. But they must soon deal with the consequences -- as well as a number of hostile aliens.
This episode genuinely mocks the legal establishment by the words of its own character judge: "I warn you do not mock our law." Institutions drown in the wake of ships passing too closely.

Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan (Virginia Hey), Chiana (Gigi Edgley), and Dominar Rygel XVI (voiced by Jonathan Hardy), visit Litgara looking for their lost shipmates, only to be embroiled in a conspiracy that leaves a Utility Activist dead. Our trio is trapped in the foible because they are off-worlders. The plot expands as Litigarian's peculiar sense of justice is foisted upon Zhaan, the accused murderess.

It is on a planet called Litigara that 90% of the population is lawyers, and the remaining ten percent are called Utilities. The murder is of a Utility advocate who actively sought to bring the ruling Legal Class down.

On Planet Litigara, in their most sacred halls of justice, the supreme being is their Law, to which the attorneys pray to, and Amen to.

Initially a purist text, Litgarian Law was written like a ten commandments, short and direct to the point. However, the Law grew to its present state of duplicitous complexity to accommodate all the litigators.

Our "off-world-ers," Chiana, and Rygel, defeat the Law and trap the "ruling" legal magistrate in its own simplistic original form. "The Light of Truth is a Parable," claims the ruling Attorney, now himself on trial for conspiring Zhaan's being framed, and his involvement in the murder of a Utility.

But as Rygel points out -- this outcome includes a bit of chicanery, to free their friend, Zhaan.

Dear Cecil:
Where did the sentence, "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party" originate?
— Lotte B., Phoenix

Cecil replies:
From the typewriter it came, and to the typewriter it shall return: the phrase was proposed as a typing drill by a teacher named Charles E. Weller. Incidentally, many typing books now use the variant "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country" instead, because it exactly fills out a 70-space line if you put a period at the end.

Sand so Hot, it Cooks your Kidneys

::Iztuzu Beach::
Iztuzu Beach is generally known as Turtle Beach because of the Loggerhead Turtles which use the beach to lay their eggs.

This secluded beach is best visited by taking a day trip from nearby Dalyan where you will be taken by boat through narrow reed filled lanes and stop at the Mud Bath were it is claimed you can wash away the wrinkles of time.

Then travel onwards and look closely at the rock faces that rise from the banks of the lake and you will see the ancient rock tombs of The Lycian's that date from the 5th century BC.

İztuzu Beach is a long beach near Dalyan, in the Ortaca district of Muğla Province in southwestern Turkey.

It is world famous as one of the rare breeding grounds for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and is often called "Turtle Beach".

The greatest threat to the survival of the loggerhead sea turtle is on these sandy beaches where its life begins.

This has triggered an international conservation effort that began in the 1990s. The effort to protect loggerhead sea turtle eggs and to assure a safe breeding ground for this endangered species has made international headlines. This issue is one of the most critical items on Turkey's environmental agenda.[wkpda]

The two other breeding grounds for the turtles are also in Turkey, in Adana districts of Karataş and Yumurtalık.
The beach itself is a narrow sand bank that has no protection from the scorching sun and we strongly recommend you do not attempt to walk bare foot on the sand as it gets very hot indeed.

Pro-Global Warming Study Receives Worldwide Headlines; Discovery of Error in Study Garners Op-Ed in One Paper
By Amy Ridenour (Bio | Archive)
Fri, 02/06/2009 - 13:47 ET
When University of Washington Professor Eric Steig announced in a news conference and paper published in the January 22 edition of the journal Nature that he and several colleagues removed one of many thorns in the sides of climate alarmists -- in this case, evidence that Antarctica is cooling -- he received extensive worldwide attention in the mainstream press.

But when a noteworthy error was found in Stieg's research less than two weeks after it's publication, of the mainstream press, only an opinion column in the London Telegraph and a blog associated with the Australian Herald Sun carried the news.

The Stieg paper's release was covered by 27 newspapers, including the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle & Los Angeles Times, by CNN, by the Associated Press, by NPR and quite a few others (see reviews of the coverage at the end of this post).

After independent analyst Steve McIntyre discovered a major error in the data, and released his results on his influential blog Climate Audit beginning on February 1, based on a Nexis search I conducted today, none of these outlets chose to inform their readers.

Here's how the Stieg research showing supposed warming was received by the mainstream press:

NPR covered it twice (a January 21 package by Richard Harris and a January 23 Ira Flatow interview of Steig), with no hard questions either time (Flatow called Steig's paper "probably historic").

A January 22 piece in the Seattle Times by science reporter Sandi Doughton contained this little editorial:
By bringing Antarctica in from the cold, the new study could undermine the small cadre of global-warming skeptics who still argue that the planet is not getting hotter, or that humans are not to blame. Many have used the apparent cooling in Antarctica to attack global climate models and point out perceived weaknesses in the scientific consensus that emissions from automobiles and factories are beginning to change global climate.
A January 22 New York Times piece by Kenneth Chang presented the report along with quotes from scientists who thought it by and large likely accurate. One scientist was quoted saying, "But the idea of a long-term cooling is pretty clearly debunked." No one urging caution about Stieg's results was quoted.

CNN.com's report began:

Antarctica is warming in line with the rest of the world, according to a new study on climate change in Antarctica.

Rather than being the last bastion to resist global warming, U.S. research has found that for the past 50 years much of the continent of Antarctica has been getting warmer.

For years common belief among scientists studying climate change was that a large part of Antarctica, the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, has been getting colder while the rest of the world has warmed.

However the new research from the University of Washington has found that warming in West Antarctica exceeded one-tenth of a degree Celsius per decade for the past 50 years, which more than offsets the cooling in East Antarctica...

The CNN.com piece ended with quotes from Stieg.

The AP's Seth Borenstein's January 21 wire report began "Antarctica, the only place that had oddly seemed immune from climate change, is warming after all, according to a new study," and included a quote from global warming activist scientist and study co-author Michael Mann, saying the study refuted the views of climate "contrarians." Borenstein did, however, include two quotes from other scientists who raised questions about the study.

The Los Angeles Times' Thomas H. Maugh II began with an editorial:

Scientists have long believed that Antarctica has been bucking the global warming trend, but that is not the case, new research shows.

East Antarctica, as assorted studies have shown, has been cooling recently, but the remainder of the continent is warming at a rate that offsets the cooling, according to satellite and ground data.

Global-warming skeptics have pointed to the presumed cooling of the continent as evidence that researchers' computer projections of climate change are in error, but the new findings reported Thursday appear to refute their criticisms...

Maugh's readers weren't told that any scientists had doubts.

The San Francisco Chronicle went still further into alarmism. Science editor David Perlman told his readers flatly that "the issue [of Antarctic warming] has apparently been resolved." The piece was headlined: "All of Antarctica Appears to Be Warming."

The Guardian titled its piece, "Scientists Solve Enigma of Antarctic 'Cooling,'" summarized it by claiming "Research 'kills off' climate skeptic argument by showing average temperature across the continent has risen over the last 50 years." The Guardian included no alternative points of view.

Co-authors of Stieg's paper included David Schneider of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Scott Rutherford of Roger Williams University, Michael Mann of Penn State, Josefino Comiso of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and Drew Shindell of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Followers of the global warming issue will easily recognize Michael Mann as the proponent of the since-disgraced "hockey stick" global warming graph and an activist global warming activist and the Goddard Institute as run by one of the world's most infamous global warming alarmists, James Hansen. Stieg himself is a contributor to the ardently pro-alarmist and environmentalist-supported PR blog RealClimate. Despite this, none of the mainstream press stories I reviewed mentioned the activism activities of authors.

On the other side of the question, here are samples from Andrew Booker's op-ed column in the UK Telegraph critical of Stieg:

...So it predictably made headlines across the world last week when a new study, from a team led by Professor Eric Steig, claimed to prove that the Antarctic has been heating up after all. As on similar occasions in the past, all the usual supporters of the cause were called in to whoop up its historic importance. The paper was published in Nature and heavily promoted by the BBC. This, crowed journalists such as Newsweek's Sharon Begley, would really be one in the eye for the "deniers" and "contrarians."

and

One of the first to express astonishment [about the Stieg paper] was Dr Kevin Trenberth, a senior scientist with the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and a convinced believer in global warming, who wryly observed "it is hard to make data where none exists." A disbelieving Ross Hayes, an atmospheric scientist who has often visited the Antarctic for NASA, sent Professor Steig a caustic email ending: "with statistics you can make numbers go to any conclusion you want. It saddens me to see members of the scientific community do this for media coverage."

Polls show the American public is continuing to apply critical thinking when it comes to the question of human-caused global warming. Too bad the same can't be said for much of the mainstream press. (Amy Ridenour, Fri, 02/06/2009. Retrieved HERE)

Rerun :: Fun in Art

by Pat Darnell
At the end of the day, I really hate wasting left-over paint on my palette. Occasionally, I use up the paint to make a little painting like this one.

After it dried, I scanned it, and put it in my iGoogle Picasa Photo cache. Then I noticed one day the different tools available in Picasa "View and Edit."

So I said if musicians can mix their compositions with digital manipulations, why not me mix my colors and techniques?

I began adding and smudging... this is as much fun as painting the thing in the first place. I can't get enough of this digital madness.....

Sharpen, change day to night, give it a Vaseline vignette. It almost starts to look like an illustration. To do this "back in the day" would have required a second mortgage on the house, to have paid for all the different photo operations.

Now I'm not a ninny, even though some of you may think so, but this is available for free, and is adequate for most of the stuff I need to experiment on.

Free, oh did I say no cost? There you have it.

Broadcast live in New York and syndicated nationally, “The Wendy Williams Show” is a chance for Ms. Williams, who will turn 45 this month, [July 1, 2009] to expand her reach and her brand — without, she hopes, sacrificing her persona.
“People that I’ve talked to regarding the TV show, they’re asking: Who are your guests going to be? Am I nervous to go out there? What do you think America’s going to say?” Ms. Williams said in a recent interview in the pink-and-purple offices above her pink-and-purple television studio.
“I’m not overconfident. It’s just that I’m not caught up in that. What will be, will be. The die is cast. I can’t be anybody but me.”
[ ... ]
“I like to say that Wendy has a brashness, a sassiness to her, that she’s loud in a very good way, in look and point of view,” said Lonnie Burstein, the executive vice president of programming at Debmar-Mercury, the production company behind the TV show.

(It also counts Ms. Williams and her husband and manager, Kevin Hunter, as executive producers.) “Whether she’s talking or you’re looking at her, you have to notice her.”
Reviewing the show when it was shown during a six-week trial run last summer, Alessandra Stanley wrote in The New York Times, “She has a bawdy and arch side, but she can be startlingly mean-spirited.” Oprah, Ellen, even Tyra Ms. Williams is not, though it’s also no secret that she aspires to one-name status

[ ... ]
“She is willing to let it all hang out,” said Rob Dauber, an executive producer of the show and a veteran of the Martha Stewart, Oprah Winfrey and Rosie O’Donnell shows. On the first of last summer’s episodes Ms. Williams pulled a Post-it note from underneath the lip of her wig. On another, congratulating a cameraman on the birth of a daughter, she said, “Kenny, you don’t mind if I say your sperm was frozen?” (“Uh, no,” Kenny replied.)
[ ... ]
Ms. Williams’s distinctive voice may be her strength, wrote Steve Sternberg, the executive vice president for audience analysis at the media-buying group Magna Global Entertainment, in an e-mail message. Ratings for syndicated talk shows, including Ms. Winfrey’s, have fallen in the last several years, so there is some room in the daytime market, he wrote. “Ordinarily clones do not work, but original, strong personalities can break through (see Ricki Lake, Rosie, Dr. Phil).” And of the 14 syndicated daytime talk shows now on television, 10 have an audience whose median age is 50 or above, he wrote, so someone who skews younger could be appealing.

Several registry cleaners I have used on my system have identified
many unused file extensions in the registry. Try SpeedyPC  HERE

Is it wise to delete them as the application suggests?

The reg cleaners identify extensions like these:
..0 000 003 .acr .bat .com .DE .E .gsm .mag .SRV .uk .TZ .xlw

They are all in this key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Currentversion \Explorer\FileExts

The registry entry for the listed ones says:
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)

I recognise some of the extensions as ones which I use. For
example .bat and .com, But are they unnecessary where the reg
cleaner has found them? So is it wise to delete them as the
application suggests?

ANSWER:
registry cleaners aren't really good at searching for all those files.
go to start, search for files, type *.0 and see if anything comes up.
you may want to enable searching slow files and hidden and system files.
if nothing is found, then go ahead and delete the entry. do this for all
the file types (*.acr, etc) and use this as the basis for determining
what is "unused".

also, this isn't going to save you a lot of registry space or anything.
