April 20: "friend high"
::
The pleasant "high" feeling one acquires around close friends, often compared to being on some sort of drug. Accompanied by lots of laughing, stupidity, excitement, good conversation, and loud obnoxiousness, ie the act of getting "high" off another's good friendship vibes.
::
Often considered a replacement for drugs and alcohol, though not heavily supported.

1. "Let's hotbox this room with our friendship!"
2. "Watch the dosage on THAT friendship, Carlos..."
3. "Lets get friend high tonight"

The Electronic Cigarette "Hands On" Study by 7WBC

Give your Self-Esteem a Boost !!
retireved by Pat Darnell | April 27, 2011 | Bryan TX

The Electronic Cigarette "Hands On" Study by 7WBC: "To get started, I have smoked for nearly 25 years and I volunteered to be the guinea pig. I applied for free trial of the Direct E-Cig™ Electronic Cigarette. While there are a few of electronic cigarettes ads online, Direct E-Cig™ is one of the most credible and trustworthy suppliers on the market. It included the free trial of the product and it did not try to fool me into agreeing to additional hidden offers. Another reason why I chose Direct E-Cig™ is because it is the most practical and best designed product I found. It has an integrated charger so no need for cables and clutter."

MooPig ReRuns :: "Behold -- AGGIE Drum Sticks with Buckethead"

...and The AGGIE Drum Corps' lastest Recruit; Buckethead... HUH?

Yeah, this performance looks like it was choreographed by Michael Jackson standing in for Madonna. What makes people act on impulse is pretty much what AGGIE football is all about. Scary, eh?

"So, welcome, mister.... uh; Bucket Head, is it? Okay, yes welcome. That pre-Obama KFC slur will go well here in Bush's Town. Prairie View A and M is down the road, if you want to visit there as well; just turn right as Wilson's Chicken."

In Review -- After the nunchuck thing, I noticed B-Head zipped through my entire repertoire in about 43 seconds after he picked up the guitar. So, that put me in the audience of teeming trillions who tried to see the jumbotron from outer spaces synchronicity. How far can you throw a fret anyway?

The crowd can be labeled in rows. Let me explain... the front is for those who don't mind close quarter moshing, shoving, sort of the vanguards, or advanced guard of the LGBiTg crowds. The last rows are the skeptics who usually say, "This blows." But in between are the stoics, and Goombahs. These are the ones who will show up when you ask them to go on a hundred mile bike ride this Sunday; or we need one more for the Rugby match on this Saturday.

The middle is the church ladies who want to rock out, but not tooo closely to others. Let me see that smile; and of course we know how church ladies would love to do the nunchuck thing.

Egyptian Antiquities Official Defends Fashion Line - NYTimes.com: "In the clothing field, Mr. Hawass already sells a line that reproduces his trademark Stetson hat, which very much resembles the Indiana Jones hat. (Mr. Hawass claims that he has made the hat more famous than Indiana Jones and that he gave one to President Obama when he visited Egypt.) Those profits also go to charity, Mr. Hawass said."

TechnoTalk - WFP social networking site seeks to benefit from snacking impulses
retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  April 27, 2011  |  Bryan TX

TechnoTalk - AlertNet: "Estimates of the number of hungry people range from 850 million to 1 billion worldwide and recent hikes in basic commodities such as wheat, maize, sugar and oils put vulnerable populations in struggling nations at even more risk, particularly in countries that import much of their food. Recent spikes in gas prices can only add to these problems." (Mollins, Julie. April 19, 2011. HERE)
"A new social networking website created by the World Food Programme to encourage the fight against world hunger has raised enough money in only a few weeks to feed more than 100,000 children, the United Nations agency said on Tuesday.

"The online fundraising initiative set up to support school meal programmes allows potential contributors to find out how many children can be fed for the price of their favourite food. (LINK)"

MooPig ReRuns :: "Gotta' have Nose to get Married"

Tehran is Capital of Nose Jobs?
by Pat Darnell and the MooPig Department of Statistics  |  Bryan TX

Iranian strict dress code, puts the nose as the fore front protuberance for women in Iran. And reports now state Iranian men too feel the wind changing in attraction mechanics. The Persian nose is out of style... what if it comes back ??? YIKES!!
Satellite TV initiated the Barbie $1500 for a nose, or $2000 for two??, in Iran. Nip and tuck can be tricky, but patients prefer to pay than pray for a better "Western" nose.

Speaking of Nips... See Previous pin up girl post in MooPig: Farrah Fawcett... and Gotta have Chin to be a Thespian.

Liposuction of the belly and butt, arms, or thigh's fat is not in demand in Iran because the women still adhere to the burkha cover up. It is a religious garb that covers everything but the face of Iranian Muslim women... in case you have been living in a Winnebago deep in the woods for the past ten years.... Women have it in their minds that when they come of age, around 15 or 16.. then it is nose job time. They critique their own profiles and decide not "if" but "when" their proboscis could use a shave.

Also as all young girls grow up in the most mysterious ways, she decides to believe that there will be only one male to ten women in the future population... unconfirmed by MooPig Statistics of Foreign Nations Department... yet if it is true, young women believe they will have to attract their mates with face.. Yes, you heard it first here at MooPig F-A-C-E is the pace for Tehran women of the twenty-first century.

*["Oh, wait what year is it in Islam? Hey, Floyd, what's up with you statistic guys..? we need hard facts here to finish this article ...!!"]*

-- Meanwhile -- while we look up some facts...
Well, closing, don't our nemeses Mid-east states ever get any re-runs of Jimmy Durante? Or Eleanor Roosevelt? I suppose the nose is apropos in those minds of men and women in Tehran.

The days are gone for the various gig contractors "trying to make it all still happen with an Excel spreadsheet and a hodge-podge of partners you can call on in a pinch." The jig is up on the gig economy.

Make the Switch to e-Cigarette

MooPig E-Cigarette Consumer News :: "Consumer Reporting: The Future Of Smoking?"

"Also known as the 'E-Cigarette,' these groundbreaking devices are raising a lot of eyebrows. Are they really a healthier and cheaper alternative to traditional cigarettes?"
" ... Because e-cigarettes do not produce second hand smoke, there is no public health hazard to smoking them in public areas. And there are lowered personal risks to you. We have interviewed many users who report that they are able to smoke in more places and get that same 'nicotine fix' they crave. Many of them have completely given up traditional cigarettes ... "

Smokers Are Making The Switch
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  April 23, 2011  | Bryan TX

Brenda Dains, from Dallas, used to smoke 5 packs of cigarettes a day until just she tried electronic cigarettes. She told us that "I was unable to quit and my health was suffering as a result".

To her amazement, when she started smoking "e-cigarettes", she was able to stop smoking her regular cigarettes just 3 days later.

Brenda told us, "I can't tell you how much better I actually feel. I've tried gum, patches and everything else to try and quit over the years, but e-cigarettes have made my goal to try and quit smoking much easier... I feel like I've been given a "get out of smoking jail" free card, and couldn't be happier!"

Electronic cigarettes can be used with real nicotine cartridges or without nicotine to facilitate ease of quitting for users desiring to do so. An electronic cigarette will quickly become #1 choice for smokers looking to lead a healthier lifestyle.

With the high cost of smoking traditional cigarettes -- new smoking taxes are being levied almost yearly -- and with the danger cigarettes bring to your health, we also give our recommendation and "thumbs up" to anyone looking to give these devices a try.

We encourage all of our readers who currently smoke to give the electronic cigarette a try for their health, and for the health of their friends, families, and co-workers.
"The greatest issue with cigarettes is the 500+ other ingredients added, not just the nicotine. Do we recommend this for non-smokers? Of course not, but for current smokers this is the most revolutionary device to date" - Dr. Travis Stork (E-Cigarette Consumer News - Consumer Health Reporting: The Future Of Smoking?)

NASA Talk :: "OPPORTUNITY Talks"

'Gagarin' Rock Examined by Opportunity
In this image from 2005, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity used its rock abrasion tool on a rock informally named "Gagarin" during the 401st and 402nd Martian days, or sols, of the rover's work on Mars (March 10 and 11, 2005). This false-color image shows the circular mark created where the tool exposed the interior of the rock Gagarin at a target called "Yuri." The circle is about 1.8 inches (4.5 centimeters) in diameter. Gagarin is at the edge of a highly eroded, small crater that was informally named Vostok for the spacecraft that carried Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in the first human spaceflight, on April 12, 1961.

This image combines exposures taken through three different filters by Opportunity's panoramic camera on Sol 405 (March 14, 2005). The view is presented in false color to emphasize differences among materials in the rocks and the soils.

NASA Talks :: "April 12 1981 and 1961"

A New Era
Commonly known simply as the shuttle, the orbiter is both the brains and heart of NASA's Space Transportation System. Hence, the STS before the number of every shuttle flight. About the same size and weight as a DC-9 aircraft, the orbiter contains the pressurized crew compartment (which can carry up to seven crew members), the cargo bay and the three main engines mounted on its aft end.

On April 12, 1981, commander John Young and pilot Robert Crippen roared into space on the first ever shuttle mission. Twenty years earlier on April 12, 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin ushered in the era of human space flight when he became the first person to orbit the Earth.

MooPig Budget Reviews :: "Budget Speak"

by Pat Darnell | April 20, 2011 | Bryan TX  In a swamp, far, far away, sits our federal budget. It ain't pretty. It is ugly. Its architecture is not indigenous to its surroundings; and methane builds up underneath its monolithic structure. Every now and again it 'poohts.'

When federal 'budget experts' talk about the budget -- they refer to our federal budget as an "it." Every expert has his own angle on "it," and speaks of 'Budget Maneuvers.'

Even though the cost of debt on our budget could build several aircraft carriers, it is not really maneuverable like a ship. So we must wade through the Experts's jargon just to get a feel for what it is that makes "it" what it is. Which metaphor for "it" is the best?
"Maybe there’s just a giant sucking sound out there, but I don’t feel the mojo on today’s national day of hiring at McDonald's." (Sen. Rob Hogg, D-Cedar Rapids. LINK)
Following is a not-very-well-organized list of things we hear in budget-covering stories:
  • budget disagreements
  • points of personal privilege
  • pledges to create jobs and raise income
  • hammer out state budgets for the next two fiscal years
  • key disagreements
  • bad economic development strategy
  • projected layoffs associated with “zero growth"
  • problems facing education are more about priorities than money
  • finance their budget ideas
  • "as long as you have the idea that budgeting fairies come in here at midnight and line item our general fund for us" (Sen. Shawn Hamerlinck, R-Dixon)
  • "it’s not government picking winners and losers" (Senate Republican Leader Paul McKinley of Chariton)
  • "It’s just a time where we can just kind of spew off random ideas and not be accountable in any way for them,” he said. (Sen. Shawn Hamerlinck, R-Dixon)
  • Sen. Bill Dotzler, D-Waterloo, touted Iowa as among the nation’s best states where businesses can locate
  • efforts to improve cultural, entertainment and training opportunities
  • negative GOP drumbeat
  • “We’ve got to quit getting up on this floor and saying how bad things are,” Dotzler said. “It doesn’t do any good to get up on this floor and rant.” (Sen. Bill Dotzler, D-Waterloo)
  • property tax money used to cover past shortfalls
  • “backfill”
  • “allowable growth”

“It’s just a time where we can just kind of spew off random ideas and not be accountable in any way for them...” (Hamerlinck, R-Dixon. LINK)

"Crabs, Sting Rays, and Sharks ... Oh My!"

Where modern oil drilling rigs and multitudes of sea creatures along with numerous people once co-existed in the Gulf of Mexico -- now there is immeasurable pain and suffering.
by Pat Darnell

Seems just yesterday, ... what was I doing ... April 20, 2010? Oh yeah, I was piddling around on faceBook, when suddenly appeared a big story of a 'British Petroleum off-shore rig' gone haywire.

The story was captured and reported by some of my wily faceBook friends. At first it was reported as a back-flow preventer not doing its job ... causing an explosion and the fire.

Our faceBook discussion centered on the 'good and bad selling points' of certain oil rig back-flow preventer's. The fact of lost lives had not yet surfaced in discussions. First thought I had was, 'Liability;' ... looking back that was probably not the most humane thought to have at that time.

Later, after the full scale of the disaster reared its fury, came mornings after mornings, waking up to read that the damaged oil well was spewing crude into our Gulf of Mexico. The spewage seemed unstoppable; the disaster story unfolded with so much uncertainty that no one could get a handle on where the gargantuan sea killer crude oil might find a resting place. It was dark days for months after the explosion.

Here we are today, no less frustrated, nor less confused, about the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Disaster, facing a date -- April 20, 2011 -- One Year Anniversary.

Like I began this paragraph, seems just like yesterday -- why do the years go whizzing past so fast?
*
“... "The BP oil disaster was the latest assault in a long series of injuries to the environment and economy of the five Gulf states. Fines paid by BP and other parties responsible for this disaster belong in the Gulf, to help restore the environments and economies that were directly harmed,” said the joint statement by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, Environmental Defense Fund, Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, National Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, Ocean Conservancy, Oxfam America, and The Nature Conservancy.(AFS. grassam. • EXCERPT  |  " ... The Gulf currently supports a $34 billion per year tourism industry, and its fisheries support an estimated $22.6 billion dollars in seafood and commercial and recreational fishing-related activity. (Center for American Progress)
  • The Gulf produces roughly 40 percent of all the seafood in the lower 48 states. (American Association of Port Authorities)
  • The region is home to 10 of our nation’s 15 largest ports by tonnage. More than 25 percent of the nation’s waterborne exports pass through Louisiana ports alone. (National Marine Fisheries Service)
  • Nearly nine out of 10 poll respondents (87%) across the five Gulf states agree that the environmental health of the Gulf Coast region affects their state’s economy very much or somewhat. (Lake Research Partners and Bellwether Research and Consulting)
  • Environmental degradation has caused tremendous damage to the Gulf ecosystems in recent decades. The region has lost nearly 50 percent of its wetlands, 60 percent of its sea grass beds, 50 percent of its oyster reefs, and more than 32 percent of its mangrove forests. (The Nature Conservancy) ...
