GOVERNMENT
HOUSE APPROVES PAUL RYAN’S 2012 SPENDING BILL CUTTING $6 TRILLION
Posted on April 15, 2011

In April 2011 The US Congress voted in a "blueprint" that basically promises to take out the garbage. We all have moments in our days when we like to go through the pile of mail on our dining table, tear up the junk mail and file the important stuff... eh?

Is this what the Ryan Bill promises? Unfortunately, articles about it are not very detailed. What garbage are we proposing to take to the curb?

For instance:
House Approves Paul Ryan’s ...(Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI))... 2012 Spending Bill Cutting $6 Trillion | Breaking news and opinion on The Blaze: "Under the House Republican plan, deficits requiring the federal government to borrow more than 40 cents for every dollar it spends would be cut by the end of the decade to 8 cents of borrowing for every dollar spent."
... proposing to fundamentally overhaul Medicare and combat out-of-control budget deficits with sharp spending cuts on social safety net programs like food stamps and Medicaid. (April 15, 2011. Jonathon M. Seidl. [LINK])
If it were your household budget would you borrow forty cents for every dollar you spend? Carrying around debt is a depressing thing. Would you buy a back-up generator for your house for four hundred dollars, and put forty percent of that on a credit card? What about credit card fees, interest, and late charges?

Following in time, order and\or place ... does this mean today we should save forty cents of every dollar we earn ... ?

You, see, the government is daft. It spends more than it has available ... and pays all those debt service charges as well... into a mounting, stinking pile of seething debt. Take out the garbage?
The nonbinding plan (Ryan's Bill) lays out a fiscal vision cutting $6.2 trillion over the coming decade from the budget submitted by President Barack Obama. It passed 235-193 with every Democrat voting “no.” (ibid.)
President Obama reportedly said: “It’s one that says that America can no longer do some of the big things that made us great, that made us the envy of the world,” ... .

This is the 'garbage" that Ryan's Bill will take out: " ... It calls for tax reform that would lower the top income tax rates for corporations and individuals by cleaning out a tax code cluttered with tax breaks and preferences ..."

That's right; clean out the "tax breaks and preferences" -- but is that an answer me and you understand? Apparently it is important to Congress People. They depend on those entities "top income earners, and corporations" to get elected.

Like my Daddy always says: "The first rule of politics is to 'get elected.'" That takes money. So to help corporations is to foist up the stipends for Ryan and others?

So, that bit of knowledge does little to help us with our household budgets. Unless, of course, corporations pass on their savings to the consumers -- you and me. That would be nice, but unlikely.
“The Republican plan is not bold. It‘s just the same old tired formula we’ve seen before of providing big tax breaks to the very wealthy and powerful special interests at the expense of the rest of America,” said top Budget panel Democrat Chris Van Hollen of Maryland. “Except this time it’s dressed up with a lot of sweet-smelling talk of reform.”
Ryan's blueprint presents an " ... ending [to] Medicare’s guarantee as we know it – has launched a major-league Washington imbroglio..." says the article.
Imbroglio: Definition of IMBROGLIO ... a confused mass ... an intricate or complicated situation (as in a drama or novel) ... an acutely painful or embarrassing misunderstanding ... a violently confused or bitterly complicated altercation : embroilment. ([LINK])
So, have we cleared our dining room table of unwanted junk mail, and taken out the garbage?

As one reads deeper in the article one finds real issues are about how this budget summary by Paul Ryan and others skirts around "government pay outs" like Social Security, and Medicare.

We think the President is on deck in the bottom of the ninth, and he thinks he is going to hit the game winning homerun; when in fact he should just go for a sure-thing single. He would depend then on subsequent batters to bat him around the bases. Eh?

NEXT WEEK: MooPig ventures out to the nearest Medicare Office to see what we dig up about that.
