'Miracle Material' Graphene Is Thinnest Known Anti-Corrosion Coating

ScienceDaily (Feb. 22, 2012) — New research has established the "miracle material" called graphene as the world's thinnest known coating for protecting metals against corrosion. Their study on this potential new use of graphene appears in ACS Nano.

In the study, Dhiraj Prasai and colleagues point out that rusting and other corrosion of metals is a serious global problem, and intense efforts are underway to find new ways to slow or prevent it. Corrosion results from contact of the metal's surface with air, water or other substances. One major approach involves coating metals with materials that shield the metal surface, but currently used materials have limitations. The scientists decided to evaluate graphene as a new coating. Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms, many layers of which are in lead pencils and charcoal, and is the thinnest, strongest known material. That's why it is called the miracle material. In graphene, the carbon atoms are arranged like a chicken-wire fence in a layer so thin that is transparent, and an ounce would cover 28 football fields.

They found that graphene, whether made directly on copper or nickel or transferred onto another metal, provides protection against corrosion. Copper coated by growing a single layer of graphene through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) corroded seven times slower than bare copper, and nickel coated by growing multiple layers of graphene corroded 20 times slower than bare nickel. Remarkably, a single layer of graphene provides the same corrosion protection as conventional organic coatings that are more than five times thicker. Graphene coatings could be ideal corrosion-inhibiting coatings in applications where a thin coating is favorable, such as microelectronic components (e.g., interconnects, aircraft components and implantable devices), say the scientists.

The researchers acknowledge funding from the National Science Foundation.

Santorum’s wife’s abortion was different, you see. - CafeMom:

EXCERPT  |  " ... "I hereby call on Rick Santorum to sue the doctor who performed the surgery that saved his wife’s life. While it may not be a criminal act yet, at least you can get damages from the doctor for daring to save your wife’s life at the expense of your wife’s constitutionally endowed infection source. That act was a second-trimester abortion. It was a “partial birth abortion”. It was done only to save your wife’s life. It is done generally only to save other mothers’ lives. It is not a criminal act in any respect. If you do not sue this doctor, you are a hypocrite of the highest order, and deserving of the worst epithets people can Google-bomb you with." "On Knowing What Gives Us Pleasure," by Samuel Butler - Classic British Essays - Classic Essays, Speeches, and Letters

"On Knowing What Gives Us Pleasure," by Samuel Butler - Classic British Essays - Classic Essays, Speeches, and Letters:

Samuel Butler spoke a hundred years before faceBook in his "The Way of All Flesh (1903), a biting document of Victorian sensibility." In the following essay, drawn from The Note-Books of Samuel Butler, he encourages us to be honest about expressing our likes and dislikes--"to make sure of our ground and be quite certain that we really do like a thing before we say we do."

'via Blog this'
"...A man had better stick to known and proved pleasures, but, if he will venture in quest of new ones, he should not do so with a light heart. (Samuel Butler) ..."
When we "LIKE" something today on faceBook, it means we "read it." And, we acknowledge that a clever attempt at a clever comment has been made by our friends and acquaintances.

Then out of the cacophony of chatter, commentary, and silly-gisms we derive our windfall of pleasure.

FOCUS: The Santorum Strategy

Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  March 30, 2012  |  Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]
FOCUS: The Santorum Strategy: "Liberals tend to underestimate the importance of public discourse"

The Republican presidential campaign is not just about the presidential race. It is about using conservative language to strengthen conservative values in the brains of voters - in campaigns at all levels from Congress to school boards. Part of the Republican strategy is to get liberals to argue against them, repeating conservative language. There is a reason I wrote a book called Don't Think of an Elephant! When you negate conservative language, you activate conservative ideas and, hence, automatically and unconsciously strengthen the brain circuitry that characterizes conservative values. (George Lakoff, Reader Supported News. 12 March 12. HERE)

'via Blog this'
EXCERPT | " ... These values follow from certain ideal progressive family values, as projected to larger institutions. The progressive family has parents of equal authority. Their central moral role requires empathy with each other and their children, it requires self-responsibility, and responsibility for the well-being of other family members. This means open communication, transparency about family rules, shared decision-making, and need-based fairness.

This is an idealized view. Because our first acquaintance with being governed is in our families, we come to understand ideal versions of governing institutions (e.g., churches, schools, teams, and nations) in terms of idealizations of families.

The idealized conservative family is structured around a strict father who is the natural leader of the family, who is assumed to know right from wrong, whose authority is absolute and unchallengeable, who is masculine, makes decisions about reproduction, and who sets the rules - in short, the Decider. Children must be taught right from wrong through strict discipline, which is required to be moral. This maps onto the nation. To be prosperous in a free market, one must be fiscally disciplined. If you are not prosperous, you must not be disciplined, and if you are not disciplined, you cannot be moral, and so you deserve your poverty. ... "
So in summary, the 'correct thing to do' does not always make it to the ballot boxes.

MooPig Trend Spotters -- Delusional Far-right Press Titans are just Pissed Off Old White Men

The Self-Destruction of Limbaugh, Murdoch and Beck: "For Beck, it was the misguided conviction that he could go on national television and denounce the President of the United States as a "racist" who has a "deep-seeded hatred for white people."

" ... For Murdoch, it was a culture of corruption inside NewsCorp. where his newspaper executives felt that the wholesale breaking of the law by hacking phones and paying off public officials was an acceptable way to report out stories.

" ... And for Limbaugh, it was the still-shocking assumption that he could dedicate three days of his national radio show to insulting and denigrating a Georgetown University law student, and do it by name."

'via Blog this'
"... In the last year, that brand of recklessness, built upon a foundation of spite, has produced three very public crises for Limbaugh, Murdoch and Beck. All three players have been badly damaged professionally and all three were led astray by their exaggerated belief that the rules don't apply to them. ... "

Rub a dub dub ... three men in a tub... describes the fervor of three men in the winter of their lives. At some point the ego of a self-made titan implodes.

MooPig Wisdom's Monetization Department :: "RFID Chip Implants"

[Picture LINK]
by Pat Darnell  |  Mar 25, 2012  |  Bryan TX

As MooPig Wisdom's "Monetization Department" decides on which affiliates to include in its pages of krumped Bombast ... we do not pause in our push for implantation of RFID in our palms, and ears, as the case may be.

MooPigsters probably prefer RFID tags that are edible. So we charge into that idea and find KODAK:
" ... Kodak has filed this patent application for RFID tagged capsules that could be swallowed to track activity in a patient’s digestive system. The capsules would contain a tiny tracking chip which could be used to monitor a patient’s medication history, or to transmit other medical information to a nearby RF data collector. The pills would be designed to break down over time without harming the recipient. ..."
What started MooPig on this bloody row this afternoon? Well, it seems there are plenty of spotters looking into these things. We find plenty on all fronts: youTube, Google search and images, on faceBook, and in Snopes.com ... all discussing humans to swallow, ingest, pierce, tattoo, or, implant, things like RFID's in, on, around, and, inside, their bodies.

Some say it is to keep track of things, while others point to a more sinister repercussion -- that of prophecy realized through people identifying themselves in the future via an implanted RFID, Radio Frequency IDentification, in their hands. Reasons for RFID in humans is: threats from identity theft, providing medical history for impaired or the infirm, and to track money the tagged has available.

Misogyny Alive and Well-er in the World ... Thanks to Dexamethasone

Bangladesh's teenage brothels hold dark steroid secret | Reuters: "COW FATTENING DRUG

Also known as Dexamethasone, Oradexon treats inflammation and allergies in humans and is used by farmers to fatten livestock.

Charities say the over-the-counter drug is taken by 90 percent of sex workers in Kandapara and the other 14 legalized brothels across this impoverished South Asian nation.

The girls are first forced to take it by their madams, or "sardarnis", who run the brothels."

Others, who have been left by their sardarnis because they are too old or not-profitable, are in principle free to leave but choose not to, fearful of the social exclusion they will face in the conservative, Muslim society outside of Kandapara.

MooPig Brain Industries :: "Improve your Brain Health - Lumosity"

Conclusion
Lumosity costs about $80 per year but there is a trial available on the site. The monitization scheme is the down side for me and probably a million other potential users. The exercises are fun and obviously effective in stimulating the suggested areas of cognitive ability. As for Lumosity's extended claim of increased cognitive ability, I obviously cannot say. I do tend to remember the items on the grocery list better and I can now spot a yellow bellied sapsucker while reading a speed limit sign. Seriously, research has shown that exercising brain faculty in this way is helpful and healthful. As for paying $80 to hone these skills, I think free games that emulate Lumosity could probably be aggregated by most users, but progress would be more difficult to track... Improve your Brain Health - Lumosity:
Train your Brain, play some games, get a score to ponder and we haven't paid anything yet for Lumosity. But you can be sure you might eventually have to pull out your Debit Card to continue... but the introductory is kind of fun ... if you like games.
'via Blog this'

Picture Your Improvement With This BPI Chart

Lumosity users often ask how much they can expect to improve with training. The short answer is you can improve a lot. The chart included shows the average Brain Performance Index (BPI) for users as a function of the number of Lumosity games played, up to 1000 total games. BPI is Lumosity’s version of IQ — it measures your ability to handle the speed, memory, attention, problem solving, and flexibility challenges on Lumosity...
About a month ago I began testing a fascinating new beta called Lumosity. The service is designed to exercise user's brains with a series of games that promote cognitive skills. According to Stanford neuroscience graduate and Co-Founder Michael Scanlon these exercises build cognitive ability in processing speed, cognitive control and attention. Playing these fun and simple games for as little as 30 minutes a day can promote quicker thinking, improve memory, increase alertness, improve concentration and even elevate a user's mood.
Lumosity was created by Lumos Labs a cognitive R and D company that builds software tools to improve brain health. Lumos was started in 2005 by Kunal Sarkar, Michael Scanlon and David Drescher, all of whom possess impressive scientific and/or business credentials. Lumos Labs also has a scientific advisory board comprised of some of the leading neuroscientists in the world.

NASA Talk -- Last Week's Solar Storm, March 2012

What's Up with Our Sun?
by Pat Darnell | Mar 11, 2012 | Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

Dayton Daily News : Biggest solar storm in years races toward Earth: "The sun erupted Tuesday evening, and the most noticeable effects should [have] arrived here between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. EST Thursday, according to forecasters at the space weather center. The effects could linger through Friday morning.

The region of the sun that erupted can still send more blasts our way, Kunches said. He said another set of active sunspots is ready to aim at Earth right after this.

"This is a big sun spot group, particularly nasty," NASA solar physicist David Hathaway said. "Things are really twisted up and mixed up. It keeps flaring.""
NASA has released a photo of the most recent coronal mass ejection that happened from March 8th, 2012 at 11:38pm EST to March 9th, 2012 12:53am EST. The photo is provided above as our first picture and is available on NASA.gov media page as well. The image was captured using the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO).
It is the largest solar storm to hit the earth since 2004. It continues to flare the outer atmosphere creating aurora borealis all through Sunday, today.

On Thursday March 8th, 2012 another solar flare started to erupt sending another round of solar storm March 2012 excitement.
“So how do you know where you can see the Northern Lights? You can actually pinpoint your geomagnetic latitude location using NOAA’s SWPC map that will show you whether you’re in the sweet spot which is as far south as 56.3 degrees. There are numerous Aurora forecasting tools and a few searches should help you to pinpoint other locations.”
The Aurora Borealis is a natural display of light in the sky. It is caused by a collision of charged particles with atoms in the thermosphere. It is often seen in high latitude regions, but the solar storm allowed people to view the Northern Lights lower latitude areas of the world. This event is named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas.

Cigar Chomping Rush Limbaugh, What He Said

February 29, 2012
On February 29, 2012 Limbaugh commented on Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, who had testified before the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee in support of mandated health coverage for contraceptives. On his radio show, Limbaugh described Fluke as a "slut", "prostitute" and "round-heeled", while questioning whether her parents were proud of her for supporting the government's ruling that religiously affiliated institutions should provide health insurance plans that include contraception. (all this is from 'why Ikki peed ya')

Already facing criticism, he repeated his claims the following day and further suggested that Fluke, "and the rest of you feminazis," make a sex tape in exchange for contraceptive funding, along with offering to buy the women of Georgetown University "as much aspirin to put between their knees as they want.

March 2, 2012
The comments caused a continuing controversy for Limbaugh forming a public backlash, organized by social media, that pressured companies to stop advertising on his show. On March 3, 2012 Limbaugh reiterated his claims against Fluke and insurance coverage of contraception[152] before later apologizing, saying, "I chose the wrong words in my analogy ... I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke"[153], in response to criticism from across the political spectrum including the president.

Here comes the SPIN ... wait for it ...

March 5, 2012
On March 5, Limbaugh responded to the reaction he'd received stating: "I acted too much like the leftists who despise me. I descended to their level, using names and exaggerations. It's what we've come to expect from them, but it's way beneath me."

We knew it!! Rush is the Victim!! Poor, Poor BASTARD!

MooPig's Megalith News :: "The World's First Temple"

by Pat Darnell | Mar 6, 2012 | Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]

The World's First Temple: "It is likely the megaliths at the Neolithic site of Göbekli Tepe in Turkey once supported roofs. Archaeologists have found floors constructed of burnt lime and clay within the stone circles--the earliest such floors ever discovered. (Haldun Aydingün)"

'via Blog this'

Here's the dealio. All around the world are found the remnants of civilizations. Most of what's left is large adorned megalithic stonework. If it is all ceremonial architecture, then we are talking jewelry of the gods. Only a god could wear a circle of 25 thousand pound megaliths.

So, maybe remnants of 'everyday humans' is not plentiful, nor as imposing. Maybe billions of humans have perished unnoticed, but their megaliths remain. People alive today go looking for a place to dig up some everyday things of those patrons of the ancient megalith, and occasionally find some.

But the main reason for most ancient architecture has been to portray a central place where homage to their deities can be sited. The other reason for all this bloody stonework seems to be to tell the story of rituals in freeze frame, so others won't screw up the ceremonies. Problem is there are no persons alive who have any idea what those rituals were.

Recently down in Turkey, clever and insightful diggers have uncovered stone circles of megalith proportions that are said to be 'the oldest temples around.' Yes, they are older than that youngster Stonehenge in England, older than the pyramids, and Sphinx, down Ghiza way, and older than dirt. And it is good, good, good.

What starts to stink is the free associations that 'archaeologists' begin pinning on the structures. There seems to be a hierarchy of ass kissing in the archaeologist ranks.

The first one to find the site gets the hard kissing. And the joy runs downhill from there. From then on the first liar has no chance of ever winning the argument. The founder, in other words, looks like a total Rush Limbaugh as time marches on from the discovery date.

Unless the 'finding' is what someone is actually looking for, you will have this steady stream of conjecture based on metaphorical language of today. What if 'Rappers' had founded this Neolithic site of Göbekli Tepe in Turkey? You do the rhyme.

For instance the onlooker sees 40,000 pound cut stones in an upright position and he says: "These once supported the ceiling."

YIKES!! MooPig, who actually sometimes thinks outside its belly, spies these T-shaped stones of Göbekli and say: "WTF? Where did that come from? Those are post modern balustrades and flying buttresses."

Then we would ask ourselves: "What in tar nation do those carvings of animals MEAN!?"

No lie. There is no one around who can say with 'any' accuracy what this total wonder really is. No one.

What do we at MooPig Megalith News Department really think we are looking at in photos of Neolithic site of Göbekli Tepe in Turkey? We are thinking it is another abandoned stage set for 'Survivor.'
