Currently, [2010] according to the National Gang Threat Assessment, there are 225 gangs in the region, and their influence is spreading into the suburbs and surrounding areas as they become more international, interacting with enormous, well-financed Mexican cartels. The largest of these is the Houstones, with more than 2,230 members, as tallied by police. (That’s about 40 percent of the number of Houston Police Department officers, currently about 5,500.)Texas based gangs are recruited by trans-national Mexican-cartels to do their bidding on both sides of the border. Prisons and schools provide the people to " ... routinely engage in
murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, robbery, auto theft, burglary, drug trafficking,
weapons trafficking, prostitution, human trafficking and money laundering. (LINK)..." Why do gangs join cartels? The cartels promise enormous profits to those who work with them.
According to the Texas Gang Threat Assessment 2010: "it is likely that the scope and degree of the gang violence in our communities will increase, especially in our major urban areas. ..."
A documentary hosted by Lisa Ling, of all people, states the motto for MS -13, is God/ Mother/ Gang ... Live for God, Live for your Mom, die for your gang. See the Intro to the documentary here [youTube LINK].
The name for MS-13 is slang for Salvadoran Army Ants, or "Mara Salvatrucha" ... this gang started on a playground in Los Angeles by two immigrant Salvadorans.
Total Strength: The number of confirmed and suspected MS-13 members statewide is assessed to be over 500.Conclusion
Organizational Effectiveness: MS-13 are loosely organized cliques with no known central hierarchy. There is limited communication between cliques within the same city as well as with other cliques in the state. Each clique has a leader -- referred to as a shot caller -- who makes decision for that particular clique. It has been reported that MS-13 cliques in Texas follow instructions from leaders in California and El Salvador.
If you are ambivalent about gangs, and not a gang member, then you are in the majority, because most people in Texas fail to recognize these groups.
Whether we feel personally affected by gang activity or not, the fact is that we are. Our law enforcement, educational and social services resources are strapped, our community’s human capital is being wasted, and our city is diminished. We should all be paying attention.

Thanks for the website on gunsmithing. I've been thinking about branching out.
If I'm elected I will push to bring back the draft and there will be an even bigger and more well armed gang around to recruit some of these miscreants into a group of peers who might convince them about something called the narrow path. The border will become a DMZ and woe be to the cartel that doesn't read signs.
Been trying to shed this honkey posture for most of my grown years.
